Allison Janney and Romany Malco are the latest stars to be cast in THE DUFF. The adaptation of Kody Keplinger’s novel follows a 17-year-old girl who goes through the five stages of grief when she unwittingly discovers that she is the DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) of her group. Mae Whitman has been cast as the DUFF while Janney will play her mother. Malco is the high school principal and comedian Ken Jeong plays a teacher at the school.
Although Janney is probably best known for her role as C.J. Cregg on “The West Wing,” she’s no stranger to comedies, having starred in “Drop Dead Gorgeous,” “Juno,” and “Away We Go.” She currently stars in the CBS comedy “Mom” and guest stars on Showtime’s drama “Masters of Sex.” Her upcoming projects include two comedies starring Melissa McCarthy, “Tammy” and “Spy.”
Malco starred in the Showtime series “Weeds” and has also appeared in big screen comedies like “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Baby Mama,” and “Think Like a Man.” Next up, Malco will reprise his role of Zeke for “Think Like a Man Too.”
