Streaming network Amazon has nabbed the six-episode drama PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK, starring Game of Thrones alum Natalie Dormer. The project is based on the Australian novel by Joan Lindsay and is directed by Larysa Kondracki.
The story follows Dormer as English headmistress Mrs. Hester Appleyard, a woman whose dead husband instructs her daily life and whose peculiarities are surely hiding dark skeletons. It chronicles the mysterious disappearances of three schoolgirls and one teacher on Valentine’s Day 1900. The interwoven narrative follows the subsequent investigation and the event’s far-reaching impact on the students, families, and staff of Appleyard College and the surrounding town. The project also stars Lily Sullivan, Madeleine Madden, Marion Quade, Samara Weaving, Ruby Rees, and Inez Curro as the college students.
The project hails from FremantleMedia International. Kondracki has overseen production in addition to directing half of the episodes. Jo Porter, Anthony Ellis, and Penny Win are executive producing alongside Beatrix Christian, Alice Addison, Brett Popplewell, Kondracki, Michael Rymer, and Amanda Brotchie.
Morgan Wandell is overseeing for Amazon Studios’ Head of International Series.
