Amazon Lands Rights to “Lost City of Z” Starring Charlie Hunnam

Streaming site Amazon has acquired the North American rights to THE LOST CITY OF Z, a period drama starring Charlie Hunnam. The feature from Plan B is based on the best-selling book by David Grann.

The film is set in 1925 and centers on the true-life drama of British explorer Col. Percival Fawcett, played by Hunnam, who disappeared while searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon. The all-star cast includes Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, and Sienna Miller. It was directed by James Gray.

Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner are producing through Plan B alongside Dale Johnson and Anthony Katagas. Marc Butan executive produces with MICA Entertainment’s Julie B. May and Glenn Murray.

The film was originally developed for Pitt and later had Benedict Cumberbatch attached but the dropped out to star in Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

CAA brokered the deal for the film. Sierra/Affinity handled international sales for the film at EFM and will continue to take it into new territories at the Toronto International Festival. Hunnam’s other film Papillon will also be shopped at the fest.

The film will make its world debut at the New York Festival in the closing-night spot on October 15.
