In August, Amazon Studios had their most-watched pilot season when they released three comedy pilots as a trial and it turns out all were a hit because all three were ordered to series today. In 2017, I LOVE DICK, JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON, and THE TICK will premiere exclusively on the streaming channel in the U.S., UK, Germany, Austria, and Japan.
Joe Lewis, Head of Half-Hour Series praised the series for being “vast in scope, disruptive in tone, challenging in story, and sometimes even funny.”
Based on the cult novel by Chris Kraus that combines fiction and memoir, I Love Dick stars Kathryn Hahn as Chris (yes, the author) who moves to Marfa, Texas with her husband, Sylvere (Griffin Dunne), when they meet Dick (Kevin Bacon), who immediately challenges their views on love, monogamy, desire, and more. As Chris begins to deify Dick, she has to re-evaluate her marriage and all the conceptions she’s held before this.
The series is executive produced by recent Emmy-winner Jill Soloway (Transparent), as well as Andrea Sperling and Sarah Gubbins.
Next up, Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a fictionalized version of himself in Johnson, who’s both a global film star and a martial artist. He’s a retired secret agent but is about to be brought back into the game, which is bad news for the bad guys. The pilot also featured Kat Foster, Moises Arias, and Phylicia Rashad.
Peter Atencio, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Dave Callaham, and Van Damme all executive produce.
Finally, the remake of The Tick starring Peter Serafinowicz of Spy as the titular hero is making its stand. Superheroes have been real for decades and when an accountant uncovers a conspiracy, he teams up with the series’ hero to save the day.
Griffin Newman, Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry, Yara Martinez, and Brendan Hines all starred in the pilot, with Ben Edlund, Barry Josephson, and Barry Sonnenfeld acting as executive producers.
