Amazon has given the greenlight to five pilots for its upcoming pilot season. They picked up three half hour comedies: THE COSMOPOLITANS, REALLY, and RED OAKS, as well as two thrillers: HYSTERIA and HAND OF GOD. The company will again be using viewer feedback to help decide which shows will go beyond the initial pilots, which will premiere August 28.
“The Cosmopolitans” will star Adam Brody as Jimmy, an American living in Paris whose romantic entanglements lead him to a group of fellow ex-pats, which includes Chloë Sevigny’s Vicky. “Really” is directed by (and stars) Jay Chandrasekhar alongside stars Selma Blair and Sarah Chalke as part of a tight-knit group of friends living in Chicago. “Red Oaks” follows a twentysomething guy who takes a job as an assistant tennis pro at a predominantly Jewish country club as a place holder while he figures out what to do with his life. The pilot stars Craig Roberts, Paul Reiser, Jennifer Grey, and Richard Kind.
“Hysteria” stars Mena Suvari as neurologist who travels back to her hometown in Texas to investigate a myterious illness that spreads via technology. Suvari stars alongside T.R. Knight and Adan Canto. “Hand of God” marks the TV directorial debut of Marc Forster and stars Ron Perlman as a judge who has a mental break and embarks on a vigilante rampage to find the rapist who ruined his family. He relies on messages send to him by God through his ventilator-bound son. Perlman is joined by Dana Delany and Andre Royo.
