AMC / William Morrow
Hill’s novel follows Vic McQueen, a young artist who discovers she has a supernatural ability to track the seemingly immortal Charlie Manx, who feeds off the souls of children and deposits what remains of them into Christmasland, a twisted Christmas Village of Manx’s imagination. Vic must strive to defeat Manx and rescue his victims without losing her mind or falling victim to him herself.
The series will be produced by AMC Studios with Michael Eisner’s Tornante Television and distributed internationally by AMC Studios. Hill will be an exec. producer on the show along with the show’s creator and showrunner Jami O’Brien, who previously worked on AMC shows Fear the Walking Dead and Hell on Wheels. Lauren Corrao, co-president of Tornante Television, will also executive produce.
The project came out of a writers’ room that AMC set-up last year as part of its scripts-to-series development project, which was previously used for series The Son and the upcoming dramas Dietland and Lodge 49.
NOS4A2 will be the third series ordered from Tornante this year, while the company is also involved with Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg’s new animated series, Tuca & Bertie for Netflix and Undone, the first adult animated series ordered by Amazon.
“NOS4A2 continues in AMC’s rich tradition of immersive dramas that combine otherworldly stories with relatable relationships and big emotional themes, Jami O’Brien and the writing team have vibrantly brought Joe Hill’s incredible story to life for the small screen and we are pleased to be making this diabolically unique new show under the AMC Studios shingle, in association with Tornante.”
O’Brien is repped by UTA and the Shuman Company
