Amy Poehler and Ike Barinholtz are pairing up for an UNTITLED BASKETBALL COMEDY. Just picked up by Universal, Poehler will star as a washed-up basketball coach asked to lead an NBA team, forced to deal with the pressures of being the first female coach. Barinholtz will also appear in the film.
Barinholtz will script the project with his writing partner David Stassen. The duo have previously written action-comedy Central Intelligence, starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart as well as for The Mindy Project, in which Barinholtz is a series regular.
Poehler will produce through her Paper Kite Productions banner, along with Ted 2 producer Scott Stuber.
This will mark the second time the two will work together, as Barinholtz plays Poehler’s love interest in the upcoming comedy Sisters alongside Tina Fey, also from Universal.
Next up for Poehler is comedy The House with Will Ferrell. She is currently in theaters with Pixar’s Inside Out, in which she voices the character Joy.
Barinholtz is currently in production on the fourth season of The Mindy Project, which recently moved from Fox to Hulu. He is also set to reprise his role in the Neighbors sequel this fall.
