Sony’s live-action adaptation of BARBIE has taken a huge step forward in the process as it is looking at actress/comedian to step into the shoes of the iconic Mattel toy.

The was originally written by Hilary Winston and Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, are expected to do rewrites. Schumer is set to play a character who lives in Barbieland, which will include various versions of the doll. The story is described ad a fusion of Splash, Enchanted, and Big as Schumer’s Barbie gets kicked out Barbieland because she is too eccentric and doesn’t quite fit the mold. In other words, she’s not perfect enough. Upon leaving Barbieland, she goes on an adventure in the real world and learns the moral lesson of “perfection comes on the inside, not the outside.”

A director has yet to be locked in, but Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, and Amy Pascal will produce. Parkes and MacDonald initiated the original deal with Mattel in 2014. Lauren Abrahams is set to oversee the project for Sony. The PG pic is looking to start in the spring with a slated release date of Summer 2018.

Schumer can be seen next in the drama Thank You For Your Service opposite Miles Teller. She also wrote and stars in the yet-to-be-titled action comedy project with Goldie Hawn.

She is repped by and Maverick Management.
