Today the WGAW announced the fifteen 2014 winners of its Access Project, which honors diversity in TV writing. Launching in 2009, the project highlights writers with staff experience and tries to get their scripts the attention of industry figures. Eligible writers submitted themselves in the categories of:

  • Minority writers
  • Writers with disabilities
  • Women writers
  • 55-and-over writers
  • Gay and lesbian writers

“The Walking Dead” showrunner Glen Mazzara is one of ninety-three WGA judges this year and had this to say about the competition, “The focus is put on the one thing that truly matters when hiring a writer: the words he or she puts on the page.” Mazzara is in good company on the judges panel with David Shore from “House”, Graham Yost from “Justified,” Dawn Prestwich from “The Killing,” Andre and Maria Jacquemetton from “Mad Men,” and Janine Sherman Barrois from “Criminal Minds” just to name a few.
