Andrew Hollernan’s DANCER FROM THE DANCE, a seminal book on 70s gay culture that follows the search for love and happiness in the dance clubs of New York City, is coming to the screen. RT Features is setting up the project and Alan Poul will direct a script by Joshua Harmon, John Krokidas, and Austin Bunn.
Poul and RT are partly responsible for some of the best independent films and thought-provoking television of this century with RT producing features for Noah Baumbach (Francis Ha, Mistress America) and Poul directing TV shows like Six Feet Under and The Newsroom.
In Dancer from the Dance, mysterious Anthony Malone and party-boy Andrew Sutherland form a unique bond in the underground world of gay dance clubs. The book captures the spirit of New York City in the 70s perfectly; a city that is in flux and people who are just looking for some type of family.
Production is scheduled for next summer with Poul producing with Rodrigo Teixeira and Mauricio Zacharias producing for RT.
