Andy Garcia and Michael K Williams are the latest to board Sony’s GHOSTBUSTERS reboot, currently shooting with Paul Feig. They join previously announced cast Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Chris Hemsworth. Garcia will play the Mayor of New York City, while Williams will take on a character named Hawkins. Veep‘s Matt Walsh also joins the pic as Rourke, while veteran morning news anchor Pat Kiernan will play an anchor in the film.
The franchise reboot is currently in the midst of production in Boston, with a tentatively scheduled release date of July 22, 2016. Feig’s directing, based off a script he co-wrote with Katie Dippold.
Garcia most recently starred in the Jeremy Renner drama Kill the Messenger and lent his voice to 20th Century Fox’s animated comedy Rio 2. The Oscar nominee and Ocean’s Eleven star will next appear in Warner Bros.’ geological disaster thriller Geostorm, which co-stars Gerard Butler and Abbie Cornish. He’s repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment.
Williams, best known for his iconic roles on The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, also appeared in Kill the Messenger, as well as the Mark Wahlberg drama The Gambler and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice. He’ll next star opposite David Oyelowo and Kate Mara in Paramount’s thriller Captive and alongside Richard Gere and Jena Malone in the drama Time Out Of Mind. Williams is also in talks to join New Regency’s Assassin’s Creed adaptation. He’s represented by WME and Silver Lining Entertainment.
