As the Tracking Board exclusively reported, the film is a remake of the 1971 Clint Eastwood movie, based on the novel by Thomas Cullinan. It centers on a wounded Union soldier who is taken into a Southern girls’ academy. There, the desires of the lonely women set off a whirlwind of jealousy, hate, and lust. Farrell is set as the soldier while Kidman, Dunst, Fanning, and Rice play residents of the academy.
In addition to adapting the script and directing, Coppola is producing with Roman Coppola and Youree Henlee, with Fred Roos executive producing. Focus will distribute.
Rice starred opposite Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys which premiered earlier this year. She was recently added to Spider-Man: Homecoming and the coming-of-age indie Jasper Jones.
