The BILLIONAIRE BOYS CLUB has found its first members with Ansel Elgort and Taron Egerton. The duo are in final talks to star in the film. The project was penned by James Cox and Captain Mauzner,with Cox set to helm as well.
Elgort will take on financial genius Joe Hunt while Egerton will hit the court as tennis pro Dean Karny. The film follows the true story of the rise and fall of two outsiders, whose investment pool propelled them into the upper echelons of Los Angeles in the early 1980s. Hunt later turned to murder to raise funds after their Ponzi scheme collapsed, and was convicted in 1987 with Karny as the state’s witness at the trial.
Good Universe will launch international sales at AFM. Armory Film will finance with principals Tim Zajaros and Chris Lemole executive producing alongside Crystal Lourd, Jere Hausfater, and Logan Levy. Holly Wiersma and Cassian Elwes will produce.
Egerton burst onto the scene with last year’s Kingsman: The Secret Service and will next be seen opposite Tom Hardy in Legend. He has since signed on for the lead role in Robin Hood: Origins from Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way.
Elgort gained attention as a mainstay for his work in young adult films such as Carrie, the Divergent series, The Fault In Our Stars, and an appearance in Paper Towns. He will next be seen in November Criminals opposite Chloe Grace Moretz, Catherine Keener, and David Strathairn.
