“Fault in Our Stars” lead Ansel Elgort and “Mud” star Tye Sheridan are on the shortlist to fill Matthew Broderick’s role of David in the WARGAMES reboot. The original 1983 film starred Broderick and Ally Sheedy as two teens who hack into a government computer, inadvertently beginning a game that could push the world into World War 3. This time, though, the hackers will accidentally set off a virus that threatens to destroy the world’s computers. Arash Amel is set to re-write the script that was previously penned by Noah Oppenheim and Zak Penn.
Elgort has made quite a name for himself lately, starring in two blockbusters just this year, “Divergent” and “The Fault in Our Stars,” both based on popular young adult novels. Next up, Elgort will reprise his role for “Insurgent,” the second installation of the franchise and will also star in Jason Reitman’s “Men, Women, and Children,” another adaptation starring Jennifer Garner and Adam Sandler. (Interestingly, Elgort has only appeared in big screen adaptations of novels.)
Sheridan is best known for his indie dramas including “The Tree of Life,” “Mud,” and “Joe.” Next up, he’s starring in Paramount’s horror comedy “Scouts vs. Zombies” and war drama “The Yellow Birds” with Benedict Cumberbatch and Will Poulter.
