It looks like is going from one fantastical franchise to another. The Divergent actor is in early negotiations to star in the forthcoming adaptation of DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS. The movie will be based on the role-playing game which was created in 1974. It has since become a highly popular game, gaining a multi-generational cult following all over the world.

Goosebumps director Rob Letterman is set to helm the adaptation written by David Leslie Johnson, who recently penned The Conjuring 2. Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis at Hasbro will produce alongside Roy Lee and Courtney Solomon & Allan Zeman from Sweetpea Entertainment

In 2000, an adaptation of the movie starring Jeremy Irons, Thora Birch and Marlon Wayans was made at New Line Cinema and garnered a less-than-desirable ovation. Despite that, a made-for-TV sequel, Wrath of the Dragon God was released in 2005 and a third direct-to-DVD movie, The Book of Vile Darkness hit shelves in 2012. With this new iteration, it looks like Warner Bros. is hoping to reinvigorate the franchise with hope that it will not lead to direct-to-DVD sequels.

Dungeons and Dragons may be a step in the right direction for Elgort. With the Divergent franchise, he has experience in the sci-fi/fantasy/action realm and he has taken the male lead on movies such as the YA hit The Fault in Our Stars. A starring role in D & D would be the first time that he would be the sole lead — and in an action/fantasy film no less. Based on his resume and his fanbase, a movie like this could work in his favor.

Elgort can be seen next in Billionaire Boys Club with Taron Egerton and Emma Roberts. He also stars in Edgar Wright’s forthcoming crime thriller Baby Driver.

He is repped by and Brookside Artist .
