With the upcoming Training Day TV adaptation and the recent announcement of the L.A. diamond trade drama, Ice, director Antoine Fuqua is keeping quite busy when it comes to his projects for the small screen — but he’s adding another project to his plate with THE CITY. Showtime has put the dark medical drama from Fuqua and Black Box creator Amy Holden Jones into development.
The City follows an idealistic young doctor who begins his first day of residency under the supervision of a senior resident who appears tough and brilliant but turns out to be a deadly psychopath. Fuqua and Jones will executive produce alongside Oliver Obst from 3 Arts Entertainment. Hayley Schore and Roshan Sethi will co-write the script with Jones and serve as co-executive producers. Fuqua Films President of TV, David Boorstein, is set to oversee.
In addition to his many TV projects, Fuqua’s remake of The Magnificent Seven starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt will bow at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
Jones previous writing credits include the classic movie Mystic Pizza starring Julia Roberts, the horror The Relic as well as the family comedy Beethoven.
Fuqua is repped by CAA and Nikki Weiss & Co.
Jones is repped by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment.
