Bocelli went blind at the age of 12, but went on to become a huge classical singer and sold more than 80 million records worldwide. He told his story in the form of an autobiographical novel, naming his alter ego Amos Bardi.
Banderas will star as Maestro while Tony Sebastian is set to play Amos. Jordi Molla will play Amos’ father, Luisa Ranieri his mother, and Oscar-nominee Ennio Fantastichini his uncle.
Radford will direct from his own script written with Anna Pavignano and Bocelli himself. The film will also feature unreleased songs composed by Bocelli when he was young. Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s AMBI Group will produce the film alongside Roberto Sessa’s Picomedia.
Banderas most recent film credits include The 33 and Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups. He can be seen next in the action pic Salty and the thriller Black Butterfly.
