“Arrival” Scribe Eric Heisserer Tapped to Rewrite Sylvester Stallone Thriller “Godforsaken” (EXCLUSIVE)

〉 Heisserer adapted Arrival from the award-winning short story Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang.

Arrival screenwriter has been brought on board to put the finishing touches on the script for the Sylvester Stallone action thriller from STX Entertainment. The original script comes from Daniel Casey. Cold in July helmer Jim Mickle is directing.

The story centers on an aging ex-con (Stallone) who, after hearing about the death of his son, is forced out of his self-imposed isolation to protect the only family he has left and avenge the son he hardly knew.

Lawrence Grey is producing through his Grey Matters shingle. Linda Moran of Belladonna Productions is co-producing. Ben Everard is executive producing for Grey Matters with Noah Rosen and Guy Riedel. Drew Simon is overseeing for STX Entertainment.

Heisserer, who adapted Arrival from the Ted Chiang short story Story of Your Life, landed on the 2011 Young & Hungry List after writing Final Destination 5 and the Nightmare on Elm Street remake. In addition to Godforsaken, Heisserer is in active with the Universal reboot of Van Helsing, part of the ’s Monster Movie franchise that will launch next year with The Mummy. He is also adapting the post-apocalyptic tale Bird Box for Universal and the DC Comics series Sandman for Warner Bros.
