Charlotte Ross will appear in the third season of The CW’s ARROW as tech genius and girl-Friday Felicity Smoak’s mother. Smoak, played by Emily Bett Rickards, is a fan favorite, but little is known about her background. To fans’ delight, the “Arrow” Comic Con panel revealed that the show’s third season will contain an episode, titled “Oracle,” that flashes back to Felicity’s time at MIT. (There is a DC comics character called “Oracle” who uses computers to fight crime. Whether that’s relevant to Felicity’s role on the show, only time will tell.) Showrunner Andrew Kreisberg also took the opportunity to deny the popular fan theory that Felicity’s father is season-two villain Anthony Ivo–though that’s exactly what he’d say if Ivo were Felicity’s father, isn’t it? It’s not yet known whether Ross will appear in the present or in the past, but the flashback episode is a decent bet for when we’ll be seeing her.
Ross is best known for her regular role as Detective Connie McDowell on three seasons of “NYPD Blue.” She has since had recurring roles on “Jake in Progress” and “Glee,” and appeared in the mockumentary “Live!” starring Eva Mendes and in the 2011 crime drama “Drive Angry” starring Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard.
