Actress Ashley Bell is having a good week. First, she stars in the thriller, Carnage Park, which premieres this week at the Sundance Film Festival. In addition, she just signed on to star alongside Melissa Leo in the coming-of-age nun drama, NOVITIATE, the directorial debut of Maggie Betts. Bell joins the growing cast that includes Margaret Qualley and Dianna Agron.
The film, which was also written by Betts, is set in the early ’60s and will follow Qualley as Sister Cathleen, a nun-in-training who starts to question the Catholic faith. Bell will play Sister Margaret, while Agron will portray another young nun in the convent. Leo will play the Reverend Mother.
The cast also includes Julianne Nicholson, Stacy Martin, Rebecca Dayan, Morgan Saylor, Maddie Hasson, and Chris Zylka. Jen Gatien will serve as producer via DeerJen. Production is expected to start this month in Nashville.
Bell is known for her role as Nell in the horror movie franchise, The Last Exorcism. She is also the director and producer of Love & Bananas, a documentary where she and a team of elephant rescuers embark on a 48-hour mission across Thailand to rescue a 70-year-old blind Asian elephant from captivity.
Bell is repped by Gersh.
