The 23rd annual Austin Festival and Screenwriters Conference has made two new additions to its impressive film slate. For the fest’s centerpiece film, they have selected STX’s coming-of-age dramedy THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN starring Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson while the closing night film will be Open Road’s boxing biopic BLEED FOR THIS starring Miles Teller. Both films appeared earlier in September at the Toronto International Festival.

The Edge of Seventeen director Kelly Fremon Craig and James L. Brook are expected to attend the AFF and take part in a post-screening conversation. Bleed For This writer-director Ben Younger is also scheduled to appear to talk about his film based on the true story of world champion boxer Vinny Paz.

AFF has also added Jonas Cuaron’s thriller DESIERTO starring Gael Garcia Bernal as well as the road trip drama YOUTH IN OREGON starring Frank Langella, Christina Applegate, and Billy Crudup.

The Edge of Seventeen is slated to open in theaters on November 18 and Bleed For This has a November 4 release date. Desierto opens on October 14. Youth in Oregon premiered at the Tribeca Festival, with a TBD wide release date.

The Austin Festival and Screenwriters Conference runs October 13-20.
