Barbra Streisand is heading behind the camera for the first time in almost twenty years as she signs on to helm CATHERINE THE GREAT. The script was written by Hit List Alum, Kristina Lauren Anderson, who landed on the 2014 list with Catherine.
The film follows the life of the Prussian-born woman who was trapped in an abusive marriage with the heir to the Russian throne. But, when her inept husband proves incapable or ruling, she utilizes her intelligence, fortitude, and passion to rise to power, becoming Catherine the Great.
After being featured on the 2014 Hit List, Gil Netter jumped on to produce the project. Netter also produced the Oscar-nominated Life Of Pi and The Blind Side and recently announced an Untitled Merlin film from philippa Boyens at Disney. Streisand has not directed a film since 1996’s The Mirror Has Two Faces. She previous helmed Yentl, which she won the Gloden Globe for directing.
Anderson has been adapting Invisibility at Warner Bros. and Di Novi, and was recently hired to co-write The Black Count with Cary Fukunaga for Sony.
