After a less-than-great performance at the box office for his latest film, Baywatch director Seth Gordon is moving on to his next project. Middleton Media Group has tapped Gordon to helm their adaptation of LIFE IN REWIND, based on the Terry Weible Murphy book Life in Rewind: The Story of a Young Courageous Man Who Persevered Over OCD and the Harvard Doctor Who Broke All the Rules to Help Him. Stephanie Shannon is set to pen the adaptation.
The book — and subsequent film — tells the true story of promising young athlete Ed Zine and his sudden descent and struggle with severe mental illness and the Harvard doctor, Michael A. Jenike, who trailblazed through traditional medicine and made bold choices to help his patient.
John Powers Middleton and Alex Foster of Middleton Media will produce the project. “This story immediately captured our hearts,” they said in a statement. “Seth’s cinematic vision for depicting the deep psychological pain of Ed Zine’s condition makes this exactly the kind of emotionally resonant story we’re excited to tell.”
Also set to produce are Rachel Winter, Ian Sambor, Mary Rohlich, and Gordon.
Previously, Gordon’s directed comedies like Identity Thief, Horrible Bosses, and Four Christmases. Coming up, he’s a producer on a documentary about Bill Nye and the director for two new series, Netflix’s Atypical and ABC’s The Good Doctor, both ordered to series. He’s repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment.
