Bella Heathcote has signed on for FIFTY SHADES DARKER, second installment in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise based on the best-selling books by E.L. James. Heathcote will play Leila, a former lover of Christian Grey who bears the scars to prove it. She joins stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, who return as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steel, as well as Kim Basinger, who was recently cast as Elena Lincoln, Grey’s business partner and another of his former lovers. Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini will also reprise their roles.
Fifty Shades Darker continues the taboo saga Grey and Steele. The first film ended with Steele leaving Grey to start a new career, but in Darker, he presents her with an irresistible offer to win her back. James Foley will take over as director, replacing Sam Taylor-Johnson who had a notoriously rocky time on the first film. Author E.L. James co-wrote the script with her husband Niall Leonard. Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are producing with James and Marcus Viscidi.
Heathcote is in theatres this weekend as Jane Bennet in Seth Grahame-Smith’s zombie-Jane Austen mash-up Pride And Prejudice And Zombies. The Aussie actress previously starred in the Graham-Smith-scripted Dark Shadows and David Chase’s Not Fade Away. She can next be seen in Nicholas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon opposite Christina Hendricks and Keanu Reeves.
