Updated 09.02.16: The spec market is heating up once again ahead of the Labor Day weekend as a new high-concept action thriller from up-and-comer Mark Townend, CONTINGENCY PROTOCOL, is making its way into every major studio with some the industry’s biggest players getting involved. Jeff Portnoy of Bellevue Productions reps Townend and is attached to produce.

After the spec made its way into over two dozen territories on Thursday, Screen Gems and Legendary are now the latest to take a closer look at what has become one of the summer’s hottest specs. You can bet that Contingency Protocol will end up on the top of the Labor Day weekend reads – and expect the bidding to get underway next week, if not sooner.

Story details are being kept under wraps but we’re hearing the red hot high-concept script has heavy sci-fi elements and is being pitched as Looper meets Safe House in tone.

The spec has already made its way into almost every major studio, with names like Brett Ratner, Marc Platt, Tripp Vinson, and Matt Tolmach all in the mix. Ratner is teaming with Lynn Harris’ Weimaraner Republic to take this into Fox, WB, and New Line, and Storyscape has coupled with Weed Road to go into Broad Green.
