Rogue One star Ben Mendelsohn is eyeing another villainous role from Disney with Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson. Details on who the specific character is are being kept under wraps but it is known that Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) will face off against The Skrulls, a race of shape-changing aliens.
If he signs on, Mendelsohn would be reuniting with Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The most recent draft of the script was penned by Tomb Raider scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
The film stars Larson as Danvers, an Air Force pilot who gains powers after her DNA becomes fused with an alien after an accident. The film is set in the 1990s and will see Samuel L. Jackson return to play Nick Fury.
Mendelsohn is quickly becoming a go-to villain in big budget actioners. In addition to starring as Orson Krennic in Rogue One last year, he will be seen as antagonist Nolan Sorrento in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One adaptation and the Sheriff in Nottingham in Robin Hood: Origins starring Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx. Mendelsohn is represented by CAA and United Management in the UK.
