Lionsgate is looking to add Ben Mendelsohn to the cast of ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS. The Emmy-winning actor is in negotiations to step into the villainous role of the Sheriff of Nottingham opposite Taron Egerton, who is set to play the titular hero.
The movie also stars Jamie Foxx as Little John, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian as well as Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlett, Robin Hood’s half-brother. Otto Bathurst is set to direct the script by Jacob Harold which follows Robin Hood as he returns from the Crusades and forms a band of outlaws in the Sherwood Forest to fight political corruption and take matters into their own hands.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson are producing through Appian Way alongside Harold and Tory Tunnell under their Safehouse Productions and Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Pictures.
Mendelsohn can be seen in another villain role of Orson Krennic in the highly-anticipated standalone Star Wars pic Rogue One. He also appears in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming adaptation of Ready Player One. On the small screen, he starred the Netflix series Bloodline for which he received an Emmy as well as a Golden Globe nomination.
