Benedict Cumberbatch Rumored For “Star Wars”

The latest (slightly more credible than, say, the angry shouting of a madman on the street corner) rumor has in talks to join. Some are theorizing this is why he dropped out of Guillermo del Toro’s “Crimson Peak.” The role is also said to be a major villain, possibly the new trilogy’s ‘big bad’ (or Vader if you need a literal comparison).

Now, it’s important to note that this is your basic rumor. It has that certain truthiness of sounding like a good idea, but the people behind the scenes have also denied it completely. One of these people happens to be JJ Abrams, who is not afraid to just lie to fans to “maintain the sense of mystery.” So, I guess look into your own heart for what you know to be true.

Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”, “Oblivion”) has written (or is more likely still putting the finishing touches on) the script that JJ Abrams will direct. Producing will be Abrams, Simon Kinberg, George Lucas, Lawrence Kasdan and Bryan Burk.

Cumberbatch last teamed up with Abrams in this years “Star Trek Into Darkness.” He’ll be seen next in “The Fifth Estate” and “12 Years A Slave.”
