Benedict Cumberbatch to Star in and Produce “How to Stop Time” Adaptation with StudioCanal

Sherlock star has determined his next film project: an adaptation of the upcoming book by , to be published by Canongate Books in July. His banner SunnyMarch has teamed with StudioCanal for the project, with Cumberbatch slated to both star in and executive produce the film.

The story follows Tom Hazard (Cumberbatch), a seemingly ordinary middle-aged man who has a rare condition that has allowed him to live for centuries.

StudioCanal will finance the as well as handle distribution in the U.K., France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as lead international sales. They recently purchased a stake in SunnyMarch.

Canongate CEO Jamie Byng will co-executive produce alongside Cumberbatch.

Haig is the author of series like A Boy Called Christmas, which StudioCanal is also adapting. In 2014, he helped write the family hit Paddington, and currently, he’s working on adapting his own books The Radleys for Alfonso Cuaron and The Last Family in England for Taika Waititi.

This is the latest project announced for Cumberbatch in a string of attachments since the start of the year. Recently, it was announced that he’ll be starring in and producing the Showtime miniseries Melrose as well as a 90-minute adaptation of The Child in Time for BBC and Masterpiece.
