Benedict Cumberbatch is in talks to star in THE LOST CITY OF Z. The project has been in development since 2008 but a name like his could likely rejuvenate it. The project tells the true story of British explorer Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett, who disappeared in 1925 while searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon. It’s based on the great book by David Grann.
James Gray (“The Immigrant”, “We Own The Night”) will direct from his own adapted script. Producing will be Brad Pitt (who was once set to star), Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Anthony Katagas.
Cumberbatch last played the ‘villain’ in this summer’s “Star Trek Into Darkness.” He will soon voice a villain in “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” and could-maybe-possibly play one in the new “Stars Wars Episode VII.” His next roles aren’t villains, but they’re still villainous as he’ll be appearing in both “12 Years a Slave” and “The Fifth Estate.”
He is repped by UTA.
