IMR International is bringing the new film from writer-director Todd Solondz, LOVE CHILD, to Berlin next week, and Penelope Cruz and Edgar Ramírez are attached to star. It’s currently in pre-production, with Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa producing.
Described as a dark and comedic take on the Oedipus story, the film follows Junior, an 11-year old aspiring theater kid who has an uncomfortable obsession with his mother Immaculada. After an accident harms his abusive father, Junior encourages Nacho, the family’s handsome guest, to court his mother but when this plan turns real and Nacho and Immaculada truly fall for one another, Junior becomes jealous and attempts to frame Nacho for his father’s peril.
Coming up, Cruz will appear in Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express and she’ll also headline Escobar alongside husband Javier Bardem. Her last roles were in the comedies The Brothers Grimsby and Zoolander 2. She’s repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, Artmedia in France, and Kuranda Management in Spain.
