Bill Hader Gets Sworn In As New Captain For “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”

has joined the cast of Fox’s as the precinct’s new captain, following Andre Braugher’s character’s demotion at the end of the second season. The role will reunite the comedian with his former SNL co-star Andy Samberg.

Details about Hader’s guest-starring arc are being kept under wraps, but sources say he will not be Braugher’s permanent replacement. Braugher recently garnered an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Series for his role as Captain Holt.

Hader was recently seen in Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck opposite Amy Schumer. The Universal pic was a box office hit, grossing $83.7 million on a $35 million budget. He has also lent his voice talents to Pixar’s Inside Out and their upcoming The Good Dinosaur.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns for its third season on September 27. The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi will also appear in the season premiere, as a police officer with eyes for Joe Lo Truglio’s Detective Boyle.
