Bill Nighy, Chris Geere Join Legendary’s Live-Action “Detective Pikachu”



British and  are the latest to join the cast of , the first live-action film based on the Pokémon franchise, which already stars Ryan Reynolds.

The project, which will be distributed by Universal Pictures, follows the new Pokémon character Detective Pikachu on a new adventure.

Nighy and Geere will play a father and son duo, joining the cast that also includes Ken Watanabe, Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton. Detective Pikachu is directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) from a by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Letterman, with finishes by Eric Pearson and Tom McCarthy. Mary Parent and Cale Boyter are producing for with Joe Caracciolo, Jr. and Pokémon’s Tsunekazu Ishihara as exec. , and Legendary’s Alexandra Mendes co-producing.

Repped by and , Nighy is best known for films that include the Christmas classic Love Actually and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Nighy’s last film appearance was in Lone Scherfig’s Their Finest opposite Gemma Arterton, but he’s also provided his voice for a number of Destiny video games.

Geered played the role of Jimmy on FXX’s dark comedy You’re the Worst and recently appeared on ABC’s Modern Family. He’s repped by UTA, Waring and McKenna and Creative Partners Group.
