Bill Skarsgard, Claire van der Boom, and Paula Malcomson have all joined the cast of BATTLECREEK. The drama stars Skarsgard as a painter with a rare skin disease who becomes friends with a young female drifter. Together they are each able to move past their own past demons. Van der Boom has been cast as the young drifter, while Malcomson will play her overbearing mother. Alison Eastwood (daughter of Clint) is directing from a script penned by Anthea Anka (daughter of Paul).
Skarsgard (brother of Alexander) is best known for playing Roman Godfrey on the Netflix horror series Hemlock Grove. His other feature credits include roles in drama Simon & the Oaks, Joe Wright’s adaptation of Anna Karenina, and the romantic drama Victoria. Skarsgard has also been cast as Philip II of Spain in Lee Tamahori’s thriller Emperor along with Adrien Brody and Paz Vega.
Van der Boom starred in the Australian series Rush before going on to roles on Hawaii 5-0, and NBC’s upcoming fantasy series Constantine. She also appeared in the 2014 drama Ruth & Alex alongside Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton. Next up, van der Boom is set to appear in Kevin Connolly’s drama Dear Eleanor alongside Jessica Alba and Josh Lucas, as well as Roland Joffé’s romance The Lovers with Josh Hartnett.
Malcomson is known for her roles on series like Deadwood, ER, and Sons of Anarchy. On the silver screen, Malcomson appeared in The Green Mile, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and most recently, The Hunger Games franchise as Katniss’ mother. She currently plays Abby Donovan on Showtime’s crime drama Ray Donovan and has been cast in indie drama Grass Stains with Annabeth Gish and Tye Sheridan.
