Black Bear Pictures Acquires Matthew Orton Spec “Reason Of State”



has nabbed the spec script for REASON OF STATE. The political thriller that is set 24 hours inside 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British Prime Minister.

The script is set to be fast tracked with Teddy Schwarzman and Ben Stillman from Black Bear producing. Bennett McGhee of Silvertown Films will also produce alongside Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey from Wildgaze Films.

Orton recently sold his spec for an untitled Adolf Eicmann feature to MGM which landed on the Black List in 2015. The story centers on the capture of the Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann by a secret Mossad team in South America. Chris Weitz is currently attached to direct. Black Bear made The Imitation Game which earned screenwriter Graham Moore an Oscar. They will collaborate with Moore again for his upcoming adaptation of Last Days of Night which will also be helmed by The Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum. The company’s next projects include Gold with Matthew McConaughey, Edgar Ramirez and Bryce Dallas Howard as well as Suburbicon directed by George Clooney.
