Freeform has renewed GROWN-ISH, starring BLACK-ISH’s Yara Shahidi, for a second season, the cable network announced Thursday.
Shahidi, who is reprising her Black-ish role of Zoey Johnson in the spinoff, is also joined by Freeform alum Francia Raisa and Jordan Buhat, singing duo Chloe x Halle, Deon Cole, Chris Parnell, Emily Arlook and Trevor Jackson.
The spinoff, from Black-ish showrunner Kenya Barris, explores Zoey’s life as the popular, entitled, stylish and socially active 17-year-old daughter of Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) heads off to college and quickly discovers that not everything goes her way once she leaves the nest.
Black-ish creator and showrunner Kenya Barris also oversees the spinoff, and Helen Sugland, E. Brian Dobbins, Anderson, Laurence Fishburne and Julie Bean also serve as EPs.
The show currently airs Wednesdays on Freeform.
