2014 was a fine year for all things pop culture. Meghan Trainor taught us it’s all about that bass, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY box office soared through… well, the galaxy and Randall Green’s dramatic comedy CARTOON GIRL carved out its spot when it hit the market and landed on the Black List.
Cut to today when Deadline has reported that Oakhurst Entertainment has picked up the rights to Green’s project and is currently on a fast track to production, slated to begin sometime this summer. Productivity Media will finance and serve as producers, under Oakhurst’s $2M annual development deal they made last year. Jai Khanna and Marina Grasic are set to produce alongside Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell of Gloria Sanchez Productions.
The story follows a single father who takes his son across the country to find the inspiration to the cartoon girl his son is in love with. Amanda Marsalis is currently in talks to direct the pic, with Green serving as Executive Producer alongside Brillstein Entertainment Partners’ George Heller.
In addition to CARTOON GIRL, Green made waves in 2014 with his Hit List spec THE SWIMSUIT ISSUE which was picked up by American High in 2018 with LD Entertainment financing. His other credits include Netflix’s Romantic Comedy THE PERFECT DATE and Showtime’s BILLIONS, and he was hired to pen a draft for Warner Brothers’ upcoming SCOOB!. He was most recently hired to adapt RUNNING WITH SHERMAN for Netflix.
Green is currently repped by Amanda Hymson, Blair Kohan, and Greg Iserson of UTA and George Heller of Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
