Marvel had no comment, and insiders caution that the project is merely in long-lead development and has not been greenlit yet.
Still, after years of paying lip service to the idea of a Black Widow solo movie, Marvel is finally opening up its checkbook to explore the project, which is the first step towards a movie actually happening.
Per Variety, Johansson actually met with Marvel executives, including Kevin Feige, to discuss what she’d like to see out of a Black Widow movie. It’ll be up to Schaeffer to incoporate those ideas in a way that still manages to fit into Marvel’s future plans for the MCU.
Schaeffer is an up-and-coming writer with two Anne Hathaway projects in development. The first is the invasion invasion comedy The Shower, which was voted to the Black List, while the other, Nasty Women, is a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
