Brian Kirk has been tasked with the last chance of proving to the world that a Jon Spaihts script can (and should) be turned into something other than garbage. Yes, “Prometheus” and “The Darkest Hour” were both garbage. So… third time’s the charm? Let’s hope so, because the script to long-developed PASSENGERS is a pretty great one. So great that even Keanu “Robot” Reeves can’t sully it, hopefully.
The story follows a spaceship passenger who is prematurely thawed from a cryogenic slumber a century before anyone else. Simple premise, with some serious punch (if the script hasn’t been changed too much). Is Kirk the man to pull it off? He’s directed a ton of tv including “Game of Thrones”, “Luther”, “Boardwalk Empire” and most recently the “Rogue” pilot. But his only feature credit is a movie called “Middletown” which follows an overzealous priest who returns to his home town and ends up battling against his brother for the heart of the locals. The pairing of that low key drama and big shows might be enough to tip the scales. Keep your fingers crossed Spaihts!
Producing will be (star) Keanu Reeves, Stephen Hamel and Ben Browning.
Kirk is repped by CAA.
