The hot spec HUMMINGBIRD from writer John McClain is hitting the market with production company Broken Road Productions leading the way. The project already has Marcus Kryler and Frederick Akerstrom attached to direct and actor Shailene Woodley interested in starring.
Being hailed as Orphan Black meets John Wick meets Lucy, the script follows a black-ops assassin whose latest mark forces her to question the truth of her identity, and ultimately confront the unsettling fact that she’s more than a hired gun, she’s an entirely new breed of weapon. It’s reported to be the first of a trilogy.
With female-led properties being a priority for Hollywood, and every exec always eyeing a franchise, this already checks two of the boxes buyers often need, and with every studio now reading, and Woodley circling, the potential for a fever pitch is already brewing before the weekend.
