Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne, Steve Carell Sign Up For Richard Linklater Dramedy “Last Flag Flying”

A trio of big name stars have joined the latest project from innovative filmmaker : , , and are set to appear in , the Boyhood director’s “sort of” sequel to the 1973 Oscar-nominated dramatic comedy The Last Detail starring Jack Nicholson. Linklater is producing through his Detour Filmproduction company with Amazon .

The movie is an adaptation of author Darryl Ponicsan’s 2005 novel – the follow-up to his 1970 novel. The original centered on two Navy Men who are ordered to bring a young offender to prison but decide to show him one last good time along the way. Last Flag Flying reunites the trio, now living in a post-911 American life: the former Naval Petty Officers come to the aid of their former prisoner who needs their help to bring home the body of his son, the latter who was killed in Iraq. The request that sends them back retracing their journey from Norfolk, Virginia to Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Cranston, who earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in last year’s Trumbo, recently starred in the Pablo Escobar thriller The Infiltrator. He’s currently in with Wes Anderson’s latest stop-motion animation project and the dramedy The Intouchables with Kevin Hart. Cranston is lending his vocal talents to Lionsgate’s Power Rangers as the voice of Zordon.

The executive producer of ABC’s Black-ish, Fishburne was last seen on the big screen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Fishburne is currently in with the action thriller Camden. He’ll next appear in the highly-anticipated Passengers later this year and John Wick, Chapter 2 in 2017. He is repped by and .

Carell, who most recently appeared in Woody Allen’s Cafe Society, is the creator and executive producer of the TBS series Angie Tribeca.
