Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out) and Jay Baruchel (Goon) are joining the cast of Lone Scherfig’s latest movie, which is now underway in Toronto. Zoe Kazan (The Big Sick), Andrea Riseborough (Death of Stalin) and Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) were previously announced to star in the ensemble piece. The project was previously titled Secrets from the Russian Tea Room but the film is currently untitled.
The film is being described as a modern-day fairy-tale including laughter and romance and will chart the story of a group of people going through the worst crises of their lives. An opulent Russian restaurant in New York City will provide much of the movie’s backdrop.
Characters include an ER nurse who runs an eclectic therapy group (Riseborough); an ex-con turned restaurant manager (Rahim); a mother looking to avoid her abusive cop husband (Kazan); a young man in desperate need of a job (Landry Jones); a lawyer with high ethics but low self-esteem (Baruchel); and the owner of the restaurant and the grandson of Russian immigrants (Nighy).
Nighy, whose credits include Love Actually and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, is represented by CAA. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri‘s Landry Jones is repped by ICM. Baruchel is repped by CAA and credits include This is the End and How to Train your Dragon.
Scherfig is a Danish director whose credits include Their Finest, One Day, and An Education, which was nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award. He is represented by Casarotto Ramsey Associates.
This was first reported by Deadline.
