Captain America: The First Avenger helmer Joe Johnston is set to STARFALL, a sci-fi pic from screenwriter David Coggashell with a reported budget of $100 million. The film is set up at Wanda’s newly constructed mega-studio Qingdao Studios. Transformers producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing with Erik Howsam and Dede Nickerson of Infinity Pictures. The film is being co-financed by Lionsgate, Wanda, and Infinity Pictures.
The story details are being kept under wraps but is being described as a sci-fi thriller with action elements set on a space station.
The project marks the first studio feature for Johnston since 2011’s Captain America. His additional credits include The Wolfman, Hidalgo, Jurassic Park III – proving he’s no stranger to high-concepts, heavy special effects, and large studio budgets. Johnston will have full access to the new studio’s 56,000 square-foot green screen stage for the production of the film.
Johnston is repped by Paradigm.
