Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden are directing the film, which will find Oscar winner Larson playing Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who suffers an accident that leaves her DNA fused with that of an alien, giving her super-strength and the ability to fly.
Minn-Erva, aka Doctor Minerva, is a Kree geneticist and spy who is imbued with similar powers.
The film, which will take place in the ’90s and therefore before others in the MCU, will co-star Jude Law as Carol’s mentor Mar-Vell, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, DeWanda Wise, and Ben Mendelsohn as a villain.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige is producing Captain Marvel, which boasts a script by three talented women — Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman. Disney will release the superhero movie on March 8, 2019.
Chan is poised for a major year, with roles in WB’s adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians and Focus’ period piece Mary Queen of Scots. She’s represented by UTA and Independent Talent Group, and her casting was first reported by Deadline.
