The beloved Detective Kate Beckett is returning to television — well, at least her actor is. Castle star Stana Katic is in talks to star in the upcoming AXN straight-to-series drama ABSENTIA. The series is based on a script by Gaia Violo and will feature Katic as an FBI agent.
The cable channel, which is owned by Sony, has picked up 10 episodes of the series which focuses Katic’s FBI agent character who goes missing while searching for a serial killer in Boston. She reappears six years later in a cabin, barely alive and with her memory gone. When she goes home, her husband has remarried, her son is being raised by another woman, and she’s implicated in a new string of murders.
Its crime drama aspect is similar to Castle, which fans will no doubt like. Earlier this year, ABC made the shocking announcement that Katic would not return for the show’s ninth season and then the network canceled the series, despite other cast members having signed contracts to appear in Season 9.
Oded Ruskin is set to direct the series, as well as produce with Maria Feldman and Julie Glucksman. Matt Cirulnick will executive produce.
Other than Castle, Katic has appeared in the features The Rendezvous, CBGB, Big Sur and The Spirit.
She’s repped by Gersh and Principal Entertainment.
