Cate Blanchett In Talks To Join Sandra Bullock In All-Female “Ocean’s Eleven”

The all-female OCEAN’S ELEVEN REBOOT film is looking to build an all-star cast around previously announced Sandra Bullock, with Oscar-winning actress circling a role.

The plot was conceived by Steven Soderbergh with George Clooney and late Jerry Weintraub. It is occasionally referred to as Ocean’s Ocho (though not the official title), implying that the team will be made of eight members instead of the eleven the original films had. Bullock will lead the team similarly to Clooney’s while Blanchett is up for Brad Pritt’s role in the group. Neither woman is playing a gender-swapped version of Clooney or Pitt, but rather the roles are loosely modeled after the dynamic in Soderbergh’s films.

Jennifer Lawrence was recently named as being on producers’ interest list for a role. If cast, she would be reteaming with Ross who directed her in Hunger Games

Gary Ross is directing the film with a script from Olivia Milch. Ross will produce with Alison Thomas through their Larger Than Life Productions, Greg Jacobs, and Susan Ekins, with Diana Alvarez serving as the executive. Jesse Ehrman and Julia Spiro oversee for Warner Bros.

Blanchett starred in last year’s award-winning Carol and more recently with Christian Bale and Natalie Portman in Terence Malick. She is also set to appear as Hela in Thor: Ragnarok

She is repped by and in Australia.
