It was a huge week for the rival superhero ‘verses with news coming from film, television, and new media worlds. It caused a big stir in the TB offices, and a few debates (including our own Captain America vs. Iron Man “civil war”), so let’s look back at the week and see some of the major announcements from both camps.

Brie Larson is in talks to reteam with Short Term 12 director Destin Cretton on the film adaptation of Jeannette Walls memoir The Glass Castle. The book tells the story of Walls life growing up as the child of an alcoholic father, unbalanced mother, and their nomadic lifestyle.

Home and Away actress Samara Weaving has been chosen for the lead role in The Babysitter. The film follows a lonely twelve year-old boy who is in love with his babysitter and discovers some hard truths about life, love, and murder.

J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff has added Ron Perlman to its increasingly long list of top tier talent. Details are tight on the film’s plot but it is rumored that the Hellboy star will play a goblin.

Tribe from Sebastian Junger combines history, psychology, and anthropology to investigate the stresses that veterans face after completing their service. The book is follow up to the book War and documentary Restrepo.

The first ranger has been cast as newcomer Naomi Scott takes on the role of Pink Ranger in the Power Rangers feature reboot. The film will begin shooting in Vancouver in early 2016.

David Gordon Green’s, Stronger starring Jake Gyllenhaal, is looking to add Tatiana Maslany as one of the runners during the Boston Marathon bombing, adapted by John Pollono from the book of the same name.

After months of various reports speculating who the female lead will be in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Episode VIII, it seems Disney has finally decided on Belle‘s Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

The Art of More exposes crime and intrigue behind the glamorous facade of New York auction houses. Dennis Quaid, Kate Bosworth, Christian Cooke, and Cary Elwes spar over auction items worth millions of dollars, but beneath the glitz, it’s a ruthless story of money, sex, greed, and desperation.

Jay McInerney has returned to his roots yet again with Thin City, the third book featuring married couple Russell and Corinne Calloway. The latest novel completes a trilogy, and the rights to all three books are available on the market.

Fox is developing a new event series with Gina Prince-Blythewood and Brian Grazer inspired by the growing number of police-shootings that have gained national attention recently. Sanaa Lathan is set to star as an investigator of the shooting.

Disney has announced newcomer Auli’i Cravalho will make her feature film debut as the voice of the titular character in their highly anticipated Moana. She joins Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Nurse Jackie star, Edie Falco, has been cast opposite Kate Mara in the indie biopic Megan Leavey to be directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite. Falco will play “Jackie” in the film, Megan Leavey’s mother. The film tells the story of Leavey and her military combat dog Rex, who saved countless lives from 2004-2006 searching for roadside bombs.

Marvel is looking to bring in Joe Robert Cole to write Black Panther. The film has set Chadwick Boseman as the titular character from fictional African nation Wakanda, who will first be seen in Captain America: Civil War. Cole previously wrote and directed 2011’s Amber Lake.

Blake Jenner has joined the ‘Untitled Coming-of-Age Drama’ (fka Besties) from writer-director Kelly Fremon to play opposite Hailee Steinfeld as her older and charismatic older brother.

Jennifer Aniston and Jack Huston join the adaptation of the novel The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers. Huston takes over the role previously held by Benedict Cumberbatch. Alexandre Moors is set to direct, replacing Will and David Lowery.

Showtime adds Peter Sarsgaard to cult series, Twin Peaks. The series is currently filming in Washington and is set to premiere in 2017. He joins Amanda Seyfried, Balthazar Getty, and Robert Knepper, as well as original series lead Kyle MacLachlin.

Maker Studios has made a first-of-its-kind deal with Adi Shankar, signing the filmmaker to a three picture deal where Maker will fully finance the projects.

Channing Tatum and the Weinstein Company have brought in Mike Vukadinovich to adapt YA novel Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick.
