Chloë Sevigny has signed on to star as the famous murderer Lizz Borden in a film about her family and trial, with Kristen Stewart in talks to play Borden’s maid and key witness for the axe-wielder. The project will be out at AFM next week, with Solution in charge of sales. Pieter Van Hees will direct the script, which is being written by Bryce Kass. Naomi Despres is producing with Playtone executive producing.
As the children’s rhyme states, Lizzie Borden killed her parents with an axe. The trial that ensued, in which maid Bridget Sullivan testified, found her innocent.
Sevigny has been up to play Borden before when it was set up as a TV series with HBO, but has since appeared on several shows including American Horror Story and Portlandia. She is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment.
Stewart can be seen next in Equals, an indie sci-fi romance that is making the festival rounds, and was recently in the action/comedy American Ultra with Jesse Eisenberg. She is repped by Gersh.
