Chris Cooper Set To Join Ben Affleck’s “Live By Night”


Veteran character and Oscar winner is joining ’s adaptation of .

Cooper will join an already solid cast headed by Affleck, Chris Messina, Elle Fanning, Sienna Miller and Zoe Saldana. Affleck will also direct, write, and co-produce the period drama with Jennifer Todd under their Pearl Street Films shingle. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davission Killoran are also attached as under their Appian Way banner.

Live by Night follows a young gangster’s climb up the ranks during the Prohibition era, based on the novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane.

Cooper has long been on the ’s wish list but delays in Affleck’s other projects prevented him from signing on officially. Production is expected to start in November and the film is slated for a 2017 release.

This is the second collaboration for Cooper and Affleck. Cooper before played Affleck’s father in the latter’s 2010 crime thriller, The Town. In Live by Night, sources say that Cooper will portray a Florida cop who is in conflict with Affleck’s character.

Cooper is perhaps best known for his scene stealing roles in American Beauty and Adaptation. He can next be seen in Demolition with Jake Gyllenhaal, which opens in April.
