Christian Bale has officially signed on to partner with Black Mass director Scott Cooper to star in HOSTILES. This marks the second time the duo have worked together, following the 2013 film Out of the Furnace, written by Hit List alum Brad Ingelsby, and co-starring Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, and Zoe Saldana.
Hostiles is set in 1892 and follows the story of an Army captain who reluctantly escorts a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands. Along their long and arduous journey from New Mexico to Montana, the rivals join forces to endure the harsh landscape and battle hostile Comanches along the way.
The script, which will be written by Cooper, will be a re-imagining of a manuscript written by Donald Stewart, who also wrote the Academy Award-winning screenplay for Missing. John Lesher and Ken Kao are set to produce and filming is slated to start in July.
Cooper also wrote and directed Crazy Heart, which earned Jeff Bridges an Oscar. He is repped by CAA.
Bale recently starred in The Big Short which earned him his third Academy Award nomination. He can be seen next in Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups with Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman. He will appear later this year in Weightless, another Malick project, as well as The Promise with Oscar Isaac and Andy Serkis’s Jungle Book: Origins. He is repped by WME.
